Those who know me, know that I am a tree and shrub kind of guy. So it should be no surprise that when it comes to a flowery performance in the garden, my heart is invariably with the flowering trees and shrubs. But as all savvy northern gardeners know, while the performance may be commanding, it is all too brief.
