Northscaping is both a website and a company. As you may have noticed from this website, we have a "dual identity". How is this possible? Glad you asked!

On one hand, Northscaping.com is a free resource and community website for gardeners and home landscapers living in northern North America (hardiness zones 1-5). The point of this website is to empower homeowners living with the challenges of a cold northern climate to transform their yards and gardens to make them more beautiful and functional. We wanted to create a place where northern gardeners could come and ask each other for advice, benefit from each others' experiences, and share their stories of creating beautiful outdoor living spaces in the North. We wanted to create a place where the advice and information wasn't the same stock advice given by the California growers or the Florida gardeners, which we all know doesn't quite work here in the land of hot summers and cold winters. There are literally hundreds of articles, resources and tools free for all gardeners to use, and the forums are open for anyone to join. Northscaping is a website that we run for the greater northern gardening community, and we don't make any money from it - we do it as a service to our great part of the world.

On the other hand, Northscaping is also a software development company. Specifically, we develop Internet marketing software for the horticultural industry, mostly for garden centers and nurseries. Our flagship service is called NetPS. It's the one and only Plant Finder tool on the Internet that is custom-designed to install on the websites of nurseries and garden centers. It puts their plants online and makes them searchable by their customers (i.e. you, the gardeners) 24-7. We also develop websites and custom web applications - don't worry, it means that we build the machinery that makes awesome websites... well, awesome! This is the business side of Northscaping, and it helps to support the community website.

As a little history of our timeline, we started the gardening website in 2004 and it has been active and running ever since. In 2007 we developed the NetPS Internet Plant Search tool, and it has been running on the websites of hundreds of nurseries and garden centers since. In 2012 we completely redeveloped both the website and NetPS to take advantage of new technologies and make them easier to maintain, support and expand. And onwards we go from there!

In recognition of the dual nature of Northscaping, we've split this website into two clear parts - a side for the northern gardening and home landscaping community, and a side for our business clients, the nurseries and garden centers of the world. You're welcome to explore both sides of Northscaping, but you're most likely to find what you're looking for in the part that is best suited for your needs.
